Polatlı(Ankara) Drinking and Potable Water Treatment Plant has a great importance for the Environmental Technology applications in Turkey. Beforehand, conventional treatment plants were applied in municipal systems. These plants were come along with a huge ponds, massive contruction equipments and high investment and operational costs. From now on this membrane technology system solve the drinking water problem of Polatlı Municipality by placed in small areas and with low operational costs.

The membrane filtration system with a capacity of 54.000 m3/day (25 C) installed in order to prepare drinking and potable water for Polatlı Municipality. Raw water is taken from the brook of Yüzükbaşı and filtrated through membranes. The hardness is decreased from 55 to 17.

The Project in Polatli will be the first membrane technology system on drinking water application on Turkey’s Local Administrations and the system has the lowest investment and operating costs. Unlike the other conventional treatment plants; this system won’t have any sludge matters.
This project is financed by World Bank’s “The Feasibility Of Municipality Services” project credit.

A Tender For 6 Million YTL

The biggest tender in Polatlı history for undrinkable hard water brought from 80 km distance to Polatlı has been placed.  The result of 6 million YTL tender, the construction work has been started-up by the contractor.
Governor of Polatlı Hüseyin Eker, Mayor Yakup Çelik, vice manager of Iller Bank Bahattin Kaptan have examined the construction work on-site. Mayor Çelik said”  This tender is financially the biggest tender in Polatlı history. Treatment Plant is been constructed on a area in Yüzükbaşı Village which water comes from a distance of 80 km to Polatlı.
Mayor Çelik mentioned that there has been  potable water scarcity in Polatlı since 1980, when water comes from Yüzükbaşı Village with the conduction line in 1999 problem has solved. However, due to value of hardness exceedes 54, it is not possible to drink this water.  Çelik reminded that there were many defections on kitchen gadgets due to hardness. He also explained that the treatment plant will be accomplished on April 2007 and from that day on the people of Polatlı will drink water taste just like spring water. Kordal Köseoğlu the owner of the contractor mentioned that they will be using membrane treatment technology and this tecnique will be tried out for the  first time in Turkey.
