DEMINERALIZATION or REVERSE OSMOSIS?

Different technologies can be employed to reach the same target. What’s more, different systems can be created within each technology itself. As such, by examining primarily the raw water quality, the desired output water quality, raw water flow rate, the cost of chemicals used, regenerant consumption, regeneration water consumption and system design parameters it can be determined if DEMINERALIZATION system or REVERSE OSMOSIS system is the most appropriate technology.

For example, Reverse Osmosis system can be designed in the form of dual-stage or as mixed-bed subsequent to reverse osmosis. Meanwhile, demineralization system can be designed as smooth-rolling (Co-current) or counter-flow (Counter-current). Counter-flow systems provide substantial savings in terms of regeneration water and chemical employment. However, counter-flow systems can be designed in different variations within themselves. Water flow from top to bottom with systems where regeneration is made from bottom to top and water flow from bottom to top with regeneration is made from top to bottom in counter-flow systems can be designed.
